A day with the founders of Creative Commons and Wikipedia

466514401_b9569e538f_m.jpgIt has been done! Both interviews with Larry Lessig and ‘Jimbo’ Wales were successful. I worked closely together with Bobby Jordan, a phenomenal journalist, on these interviews…and now it’s time to edit some video and audio. The plan is to have the entire Wales interview available as a two part audio download, added to this a few video clips on the side. Key issues that Jimmy will address in the videos are:

  • Local communication policies
  • Wikia Search, to be Google’s worst nightmare?
  • Jimmy on “airbrushing” his Wikipedia entry

So where and how did these interviews take place you might ask. They were both supposed to be held at the Radisson hotel in Sea Point; however Lessig had a change to his agenda resulting in the change of venue. So instead of interviewing him at the hotel we got to fetch him from the in Durbanville and conduct a drive-back interview. As unexpected as this was, I was worried about the sound, since the car noise could be disruptive, however, it was not the sound quality but the shakiness of the video which became a problem due to the shakiness of the drive. But the interview was great, and will also be available as an audio download over the weekend.
Jimmy Wales’ interview on the other hand was conducted at the Radisson hotel, held outside on the patio. It was very relaxed, however the seagulls screeching and the loud guests sitting at the next table, irritated the living daylight out of me. A technical problem was the strong backlighting which caused the camera to change exposures relatively often, but for the short video clips to be edited the technical problems are not too noticeable.

wikipedia6b.jpgAt the end of this exciting day, I at least go to sit with Lessig and Wales and pose for a squinting photograph (which I consider my birthday present) … view pics here.

The CC Salon / Bring ‘n Braai was also an awesome event. It was packed, I didn’t expect so many people, but it was great meeting some of the CT bloggers finally, even if just briefly!!! The tour is nearly done, it’s back to the editing suite for me now…good night, and good luck!

Links to the videos and the audio to come very, very soon :)
